I need to put some new lights on my landing and my hallway (the one on the hallway is at the bottom of the stairscase and the one on the landing is right at the top of the stairscase)
What is best between an uprighter or a pendant one? What gives more light?
Many thanks!
It really depends on how many bulbs and what wattage the fixture will hold. A pendant can be inverted (is that what you mean by uprighter) and or facing down. However when you walk into a house you really don’t want to look up and see a bulb glaring back at you in your face.

The name is actually "uplighter" not "uprighter".
A pendant light is one that hangs from the ceiling and it all depends which way the shades are fitted as to whether it’s an uplighter or not.
If you can’t see the bulb, it’s an uplighter.
They tend to give off a softer light as the light reflects off the ceiling and is more evenly distributed.
It depends on the wattage of the bulb as to how bright the light is but you’ll have to check the light fitting itself as there are often limits as to the maximum wattage a fitting and/or shade can take.
It might mean a bit of work but uplighters fitted to a wall at the top and bottom of a staircase often look good.
