Waterbottle Floodlights

Ingenious usage for old water bottles from Brazil. Pierce the ceiling and let the natural sunlight disperse and flood the room!

It’s in Portuguese, but you can get the idea for the concept from watching it.

It’s not the film. It’s just the canister that 35mm film comes in. some are clear, but most are black with a grey snap-on lid.

It’s just a film canister. The kind that 35mm film comes in. According to this, they don’t degrade in the sunlight (or maybe they do and are just sacrificial) and so protect the drink bottle caps that do degrade from breaking. It looks like this would be to keep the water in the bottle from evaporating after the cap breaks from being in direct sun and weather all the time.

That’s incredible! Now if we can just get people in the US to use them…though it’s from my experience that many people here seem to have this unseated phobia of natural lighting. My own mother used to yell at me if I turned a light off in favor of opening the blinds…

They’re not supposed to work at night, they’re supposed to replace lightbulbs during the day, as demonstrated from 2:10.

Its ingenious, except for water leaking. Wonder how that can be solved as simply?

They’d use regular lights, I suppose. But it’s still a pretty good idea, considering most people use lighting during the day anyways.
