I have an existing ceiling light with switch at top of the landing stairs. I want to add more lights, ie i have bought 2 pendant lights, which i want to hook up, working off the same switch. Is this easy?
You’ll need to fish wiring for these in the ceiling from the existing box to the new ones you will have to install for the additional lights.Since you’re asking this question, I think you may need to call an electrician for this one. It’s not extremely difficult, but it will require some knowledge of basic electricity.
very easy. get a electrical cable, take out the ceiling light which you already have placed in. there you should see a cable running into it, add ur new cable to the back of that and connect ur light to that, they will work together

Please, for the safety of you &your loved ones, hire a pro to do this.
We have a joke, if you will, that goes:
"What’s fried, crispy and hangs from the ceiling? Answer: Homeowner".
To answer your question, yes it is easy if some contributing factors are in place. Accessibility is one of them. Lay out is another. (The ceiling joists)
1) you have to get the existing fixture first, take it down
2) run the exact sized wire from that box above the existing light fixture to the hole that you cut for the box that will hold up the new ones.
3) put that wire into the two boxes. (2 lights, 2 boxes) Daisy chaining is acceptable.
4) match color for color
5) install the two new lights
Sounds easy enough. What size box, you ask. For that matter, what kind of box? What about the wire size? 14 or 12? Can you get above the existing fixture to easily run the wire? Or do you have to fish the wire? If so, how do the ceiling joists run? You can’t go through them with out drilling a hole, if they run perpendicular to the way the wire needs to go for the new fixtures.
You say that the existing fixture is at the top of the stairway. Just exactly where do you want these new lights? Do you want them IN the stairway? if so, how do you plan to GET the ceiling? Standard ladder won’t work because of the steps. Unless you plan on building one of the steps up so the ladder is on a firm, level platoo. Lowe’s does sell ladders that have adjustable leggs, just for this purpose. (FYI)
Hope this helps.
Good luck in all you do and may God bless.
