Rewiring and hanging a Ceiling light?

oohh man!

We live in a 2 story loft. and we have a horrible light hanging in the stairway. the only problem the top of the fixture is on the 2nd story ceiling extending down to the top of the 1st story!

Here is my solution though,

We bought a three way light fixture and the bell lamp coverings to fit it. I’m going to take off the end of the old fixture and attach the new fixture using another chain or heck what ever will fit inside as there isnt a place for the chain to attach. Any tips?
lol update

Yes i know to turn the breaker off.

lol my buddie works in industrial electricity, that is 440v 600A and up that he messes with, not 110v, it’s not hard and i know the polarity of the wire, He’ll be there when i put it up anyways :)

TURN THE FUSE BOX OFF!!!!!!!!!!! FIRST.

match the colored wires and make sure that there is no actual wire exposed when done. that’s all I know. I am no expert but TURN THE POWER OFF BEFORE YOU DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
