Question about wiring when replacing a ceiling light?

I just replaced a ceiling light because the old one wasn’t working, when I took the old fixture off the ground wire wasn’t attached to anything. In fact I don’t see anywhere for it to go so I just put a cap on it. Is this safe? The light works fine and it hadn’t been connected to anything since I have lived here for 2 years. There is literally nothing to connect it to.

Shouldn’t be a problem. If it has worked for over 2 years, forget about it.

  1. it will work fine the ground is to protect the fan encase of a serge or spike it sends the "extra" power back to the panel old houses didn’t use grounds people sometimes got shocked but don’t worry the neutral will do the same think
