is it illegal in Illinois to have a ceiling light in your living room?

An inspector came to my grandmother’s house and said she couldn’t have a ceiling light. So she had to take it out and now she only has a lamp. It doesn’t make sense to me, because everyone else has one. This sounds dumb but I just need to know.

I think the complaint may have been against a defective or unsafely-wired ceiling lamp not against ceiling lamps in general. What was the inspector doing in her home? If he was checking electrical wiring problems that might be the reason. Try calling the city hall and see if they will tell you something more specific.

  2. I doubt the actual location of the fixture was a problem. Did the inspector say WHY she couldn’t have one? If it was not installed properly, or if wiring wasn’t up to code then that might be the reason.

I bet he would take exception I\if I walked into his home and told hm he could not a have a freezer because it was the wrong blooming color. Blooming cheek of the man, get me me his number and I’ll soon have him sorted out; that’s way outta order.
