How do you replace a lightbulb in a square ceiling light? Like this one: http://imgur.com/iz4Xy I’ve tried pushing up on the plastic, but it doesn’t seem to move.
Try gently prying the metal frame downward from the ceiling.
They’re often mounted on spring clips to allow this.
(It might be painted shut if this is the first lamp change since the paint job.)
Have you tried prying the metal part down? Maybe the whole thing pops off.

It is possible that the frame will be held in with spring like devices, and if you pull down on the edge, it may be loosened……..try to loosen the edge just a bit and then look at the inside with a mirror to see if there’s retaining wires or the like
