How do I fix a stripped screw hole in ceiling light fixture mounting bracket?

My husband and I are trying to hang a chandelier in our nursery. We got everything assembled and ready to hang, hung the new mounting bracket that came with the chandelier, and found that one of the mouning screw holes in our ceiling (light fixure) box is stripped. How can this be repaired quickly? I would like to get this chandelier up by the weekend.

the dome light that we are replacing is about 2lbs and the chandelier we are hanging weighs about 5lbs, if that makes a difference.

Put a self-taping screw through it.

  5. If I’m reading the question correctly You’re talking about the small holes that take those little machine screws with the narrow shafts go into.
If it’s a plastic box Get a sheetrock screw between 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" long. The shaft is big enough and the threads are course enough to make its own new hole as it goes in.
If the box is metal the get a self-tapping metal screw & do the same thing

I do this all the time..
