how can we put up a ceiling light in our mobile home that has no wiring?

We just bought an older m.h. and the bedrooms have no lighting at all. The light switch is connected to one outlet, but i dont want to just have a lamp. I would like ceiling lights…Ive been trying to see if there are any lights that may work wirelessly. Does anyone know of a product that may plug into the outlet that would control a light that I could mount ont he ceiling?

We dont have cordless electricty yet. You will have to run wire to what ever light you use. I have seen some nice looking wire covers that may work for you. Or maybe a wall scounce (im not sure about that spelling) but that could be mounted on the wall.

Good Luck

  3. 1) Try a hanging lamp that has a cord to it. Plug it into the outlet that works off the switch. This IS the cheapest way out.
    2) Run "wiremold" from the outlet up and over. Set the box, pull the wire, make up the joints. Estimated cost: one day and $100.00 in materials.
    3) Tear out the wall and ceiling and run the wires. Set your box. Install new paneling. Install lite. Estimated cost:2 week-ends and $1500.00
    Cost of a hanging lamp:$25.00

  4. although smaller the roof does have trusses.the paneling may be glued to the studs but it often can be persuaded to come loose and be reused. if one is careful a properly sized hole can be put in the paperboard ceiling and a fish tape can be run from a second hole at the wall to run the wire. the walls are usually under two inches thick and it will take patience and possibly a little luck.

be sure to cut the hole directly adjacent to the truss to mount your box for the fixture. to make it easier you can cut a larger hole and cover it with a ceiling fixture medallion. Some of these get pretty large. if the wall is right underneath the truss you may have to mount a box there as well and just put a cover on the box. pull the paneling either at the switch or at the switched outlet. if you pull it at the switch then the outlet can be made unswitched and the fixture switched if you pull at the outlet then the outlet will be switched with the fixture or abandoned.
