Doom Builder Tutorials – Transfer Light

In this tutorial I show how to transfer light from a dummy sector to the ceiling/floor of another sector. For example (as demonstrated) if you wish to have a pool of lava “glow” brighter than the rest of the sector without having the ceiling lit as well, you can use this technique to accomplish just that.

the best thing of this it that if you have eg a ceiling lamp and the light that hits the floor is fading out the longer you are from the light. jsut use 3-4 dummy sektors whit different brightness. very usefull.

Yes, but I’m one who shoots for map optimization, as well as having a decent “REJECT” map, and massive sectors complicate that – so I just wanted to demonstrate the ease of the transfer light special.

You can have the floor glow by merely raising the ceiling over the lava to be much higher than the surrounding ceiling, without added missing textures. What will happen is the surrounding ceiling will blur over the brighter raised ceiling, meaning that you’ll have a bright floor and dim ceiling.

Oh and remember, if all of the water in your map is going to use this lighting, you can assign multiple sectors (i.e. the ones with water :P ) the same sector id, so they can all get the effect from just the one dummy sector – no need to do more work!
