Ceiling Pendant Light

Daniel Castro is like a rare, vintage Woody Allen film…you only invite your very best friends to watch it with you and you don’t take your eyes off the screen.
Daniel is the best kept secret in town – but it’s only a matter of time before he’s discovered, and as you keep on going to see him perform and enjoy this treasure of a musician in intimate venues like The Little Fox Theatre, you meet up with some of the greatest people, and they’re all fans who know he never does the same show twice.
Daniel was filmed here at Rene Solis’ Blues Guitar Extravaganza in October and he was on the far side of the stage, choosing to stand under a tiny ceiling light and ignoring the bright lights of the front of the stage. As I tried to get more light into the shot, I could only see his guitar and his hands…and was halted by the tremendous depth and soul of what he was playing. I decided to keep on filming him standing there in the dark. I let go of my sense of sight and noticed my concentration on the sound. It occured to me that in the dark,one’s mind isn’t distracted by images and you can allow yourself to be drawn into the sound, rather than watch a film-so I went ahead and used this clip.
Of the hundreds of musicians I have met from the Bay Area, there is nobody as spiritually prolific with music as Daniel Castro.
